The Continents

The Seven Continents

The world is divided into 7 large chunks of land called continents; Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antartica, Europe, and Australia (also known as Oceania).   We live on the continent of North America, which is the third largest continent.  How cool is that!? Watch this video to learn more about our continent North America .

Have you ever traveled to any of the other continents?  Where have you been or where would you like to go?  I have spent time in Spain and Italy, both of which are in Europe.  What a wonderful world God had created!  There are so many different people, animals, foods, landscapes, and sights to see!  God is an amazing Creator, isn’t He?  In addition to all of the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes, He created each person as a unique creation in His image.  In all of the world, there is no one like you!  God loves you so much. In the Bible, in Genesis 1:27 it says, “ So God created mankind (people) in His own image, in the image of God He created them; make and female He created them.”

God created each and every person, and we are all special to Him. God wants us to love others, just as He loves us, no matter how similar or how different we are from one another. I found a book, written by Matthew Paul Turner and illustrated by David Catrow, called "When God Made You" that tells of God’s love for us.   Listen to this song too: "God Made Me".

People who live in North America had family members before them that came from other places.  Our ancestors, the family members that lived before us, came to North America from many other continents.  When people move from one country to another with the plan to stay in the new country, it is called immigration.  I shared with you that my ancestors (my great, great grandparents) immigrated to North America from Europe, specifically England, France, and Germany, in the early 1800’s.   I also recently learned I have ancestors from Ireland and Scotland!  I really enjoyed learning about your ancestors through the family trees you brought to school last week.

Think about a typical school day for you.  How do you start your day?  What things doyou do with your teacher and your friends?  Do you think students from other continents do the same things?  Watch this video to see what two classes, both from different continents (Bangladesh in Asia and United Kingdom in Europe), do during their school day.  Are there any parts that are like your school day? "One World, One Day"
